I just bought a 1998 ford Explorer from a friend. The problem is that sometimes i start the engine, I have no oil pressure and I can start to hear the Lifters rattle like they are not pumping up. I changed the oil filter and the engine oil and i still get the same results. I am a diesel mechanic for Waste Management for a living and I'm not that familiar with gas engines, any ideas???

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge-if low could be the oil pump/engine bearings/clogged oil galleries/sludge up screen etc.
