1998 Ford Explorer Battery replacement

Unable to get the starter to crank, have replaced the old 65-650ah with a new 65-850ah. Everything works fine except, when i switch on the ignition, instrument lights come on fine for about a second, then dim dramatically as if shorted-out.

Is there a limiting fuse or other cut-out which prohibits the higher amperage ofthe new battery?

Find the starter relay use a remote start or short out he S teminal on it to the battery side of the relay did the starter engages the engine? Let me know asap

The higher the CCA's on the battery the better you are for cranking purposes and cold weather enviroment below 32degs

Hi "rasmataz", just need some clarifications.

Is the 'starter relay' what we (in UK) call the 'solenoid'?

If so, are you suggesting i just bypass the solenoid and establish whether the solenoid is defective?

Also, I guess the answer to my second questions is that there is no cut-out that would seek to limit this battery's higher amperage?

Yes its the same thing and for limiting the voltage the regulator controls the alternator output-

rasmataz, thanks for your help. it turned out the coil was burned-out, maybe due to the increased current from the new battery, and created the short once the ignition was switched on.
