1998 Ford Explorer AC/Heat Control

I just acquired a used 98 Eddie Bauer model explorer and the automatic AC/Heat control does not seem to be automatic. Only one temperature setting even though the control (LED) on the front panel says that has been changed. Any ideas on fixes. Second part can a replace with a manual system from an XLT Explorer 97.
