1997 Ford Explorer Speedomoter Works above 35mph

Hi, im Ken,
I have a 97 ford explorer, ohv 4.o v6
The suv recently started to give me problems. I read the codes and got P1151, and P0500. I replaced both the O2 sensors, and the speed sensor. I thought this would clear it up. It did not. Here are the symptoms.
Car runs fine, speedometer does not operate until I hit 35mph, and stops working when I go below 35mph. Sometimes, before the 35mph, the engine will rev. and the car doesnt move, but if I back off the gas and then give it gas again the car takes off fine, but the speedomoeter is still not operating.
Has anyone dealt with this and if so, can you give me the assistance I need.

Check the throttle position and vehicle speed sensor-

I have checked the Vehicle Speed Sensor, and Throtle Position Sensor, both are fine.

What else could it be?
New symptom, now the speedometer does not work at all.

You probably have to open up the dash and investigate the speedometer head assembly.

Ras, I appreciate your trying to help me on this. I was toying with the idea that it could be the Air Idle Control Module. Do you think this would cause the symptoms I am experiencing? Other than that I am at a loss. Tearing down the dash is beyond my experience, so I am going to AAMCO this Friday to let them have a go at it.
I am hoping to resolve this before then.

P0500 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionVehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction

What does that mean?Basically this means that the vehicle's speed as read by the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not working properly.

SymptomsSymptoms may include:
loss of anti-lock brakes
the "anti-lock" or "brake" warning lamps on the dash may be lit
the speedometer or odometer may not work properly (or at all)
your vehicle's RPM limiter may be decreased
the shifting of an automatic transmission may become erratic
other symptoms may also be present
CausesA code P0500 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
Possible SolutionsThe simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.

If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor. Again, the exact procedure wil depend on your make and model of vehicle.

If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.
