While working on changing the terminal ends on the battery, the hood came down, and shorted across the + terminal to the metal car hood. I finished the work, the car started ok, but several things are awry. The dash guages jump about, and seem to peg out at the top level. THe tach does not work. The headlights are very dim. The stereo goes off and on on its own.

I have not disconnected the battery and reconnected compeletely, that is, disconnect the negative terminal also, to maybe reset the system.

I'm sure the malfunctioning electrical components were caused by the shorting of the positive terminal to the body, but am not sure how to get things back to normal.

Thanks.

Try disconnecting the battery and connecting the two cable terminal ends together for 30 minutes and then hook them back up. I'm sure it didn't like the voltage spike, hopefully damage did not occur.
