1993 Ford Explorer spray-paint odor

1993 Ford Explorer Automatic

My '93 Explorer emits a spray paint type smell when running. When running the A/C the smell permeates the cabin, but not when running the heater. You can smell it for a while outside of the car afterward also. Any ideas?

THe only thing I can say is there must be a mold that has grown in the system where the AC drain is located. There really isn't anything else that can smell like spray paint.
