I'm working on a 1993 ford explorer sport. I've replaced the battery and alternator because it doesn't keep a charge. I've noticed a clicking sound coming from under the dash and not sure what to look for.

The noise seems to be coming from the steering column to the drivers side door. The domino theory is in full effect I'm afraid. One thing falling into another.

Okay, I want you to try something. Here is a how to for checking electrical draws. First, identify there is a draw. Then I want you to remove one fuse at a time until the draw stops. At that point, we will know which circuit is affected.

Let me know what you find.

I've finally been able to pull all fuses and nothing stops the clicking noise. The only time it stops clicking is after the automatic doors lock on thier own. I pulled the auto door fuse and the clicking still continues. Anything else I can look at?

Have you removed the relay for the door locks?

If I remember correctly, this year has it under the hood in the relay block.

I had an after thought. Check under the dash where the noise is coming from. I believe there are a group of relays there too.

Another issue I noticed is that I take the keys out of the ignition after trying to crank it. Shut the door and I noticed the check engine light still on with no key in the ignition. What causes this?

It could be a bad ground. Power will take the easiest way out. If a ground is lost, it will find the next available one and go that way. It could be through a different circuit causing the light to come on.
