1993 Ford Explorer Axle is locked

Are your emergency brake cables stuck at the rear wheels? Please advise.

No, the parking brake is not stuck and I can turn the wheel in backward by hand but when I try to turn it forward it feels like the transmission is in park and that wheel is locked. I've taken all four wheels off the ground and tried to get it to turn while running in both 2 and 4 wheel drive. I shut off the engine and put the trans in neutral, the right 3 of the four wheels will turn either way but not the drivers side rear. I've never run across this before and don't know if it is a differential problem or what. Any other ideas?

Bear with me, I'm trying to visualize this in my head. Is this a positraction or limited slip rearend? If you lift both rear wheels off the ground and trans is in park. Turn the passenger side wheel forward. Does the driver's side wheel turn backwards? Then turn the passenger side wheel backwards, does the driver's side turn forward? And, with the trans in neutral, does the left rear wheel turn backwards harder than the right?

In park if I turn the pass side wheel forward the drivers side wheel turns backward. In park the pass side wheel will not turn backward. Both seem to take about the same amount of force to turn backward while in neutral.

Try backing the brake shoes off on the left rear wheel and then try to turn it forward. Let me know what you find.
