2008 Ford Expedition Very bouncy ride all of a sudden

My expedition just started bouncing - a lot. It was a very fast transition, I went to the store, on the way there it was fine, on the way back the Expedition became very bouncy from the back. There is no cargo in the car. When I got home I looked at the car and the back is low on both sides. The front seems fine. Is there a something that can cause this all of a sudden? Is there a some fluid that can leak and cause both rear wheels to sink lower and cause excessive bouncing.

Hi scott216. Welcome to the forum. It would appear you might have an automatic load leveling system that is not working. Typically there will be an air compressor under the hood, but if it was not working, the system would simply fail to raise the rear back up when needed. It would not make it suddenly go down. The exception would be if there is a small leak in a hose or rear shock absorber and the compressor overheated or stopped working for some other reason. Another possible cause is a height sensor that became disconnected and is telling the computer the rear is up too high. The computer would activate the exhaust valve to lower the rear, thinking you just unloaded passengers or luggage.

To verify you have an automatic height system, look for small plastic hoses going into the sides of the rear shock absorbers or a link between the rear axle housing and a sensor attached to the bottom of the body.

I do have an air suspension system. You're right, something is wrong with it, but I don't know what. The compressor does come on, but I don't know if it's outputting any pressure. I'll have to bring it into a garage for service.
