I was told that the dirty door sensors are causing the vehicle to think that the door is ajar. How do I fix this problem or eliminate the noise alert, it is non-stop.

The switch is part of the latch assembly on your vehicle. You need to remove the door panel to access it. At that point you can check to see if the switch is bad or dirty. Here are diagrams below to help you change it out. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

you said that the latch is part of the door assembly, the ford mechanic said it is generally dirty and there is no way to really fix it. Is there a way to deactivate the door ajar alert? Maybe one of the fuses?

There is a fuse, but it will disable other things too. As far as the switch, is there a reason he can't clean it?

stuck or faulty door ajar switch most likely culprit. lubricate all door latches including rear hatch with WD40 to see if it will loosen the switch.

Yes switch is in door latch
If you have an access to a scanner, check BCM codes
Or data it should show which switch is at fault
99% of the time WD40 or penetrating oil worked for us

About 3 months ago the door ajar light on the dash would stay on even after checking all doors and windows. After a couple of days it would go off. Then it got progressively quicker between light on and light off. Now it is continuous for the last 2 weeks. I had my oil changed and they checked the battery and said it was bad, only 2 1/2 months between oil changes when it was good. Is this draining the battery and can I check to see if one of the door sensors is working and replace it my self? Thanks for your response, Rahn Bergee

The switch is part of the door latch. As far as checking, you need to check if there is a draw on the battery after everything is off. Here is a how to for checking. Check it and let me know what you find. NOTE: If there is a draw, remove one fuse at a time to determine what circuit the problem is coming from.

This is a common issue with the newer model Ford trucks and SUVs. One of the door ajar switches, 1 located in each of the 4 side doors as well as 1 in the rear hatch, has failed. You will have to test each switch to see which one needs replaced.

Chances are one of the roll switches on the door is bad and not stopping the power to the system. You need to disconnect them one at a time to see which one is the problem. I would recommend starting with the driver's door. Also, make sure the rear hatch and window are closed tightly.

2000 Ford Expedition 120,000 mi.
The back window is the reason for the door ajar light to stay on. I can pull on the handle and the lights will go off. I have tried wd40, this worked for a few days but is back on again. I have looked for the switch to check it out, but not having much luck. If anyone can help, my wife & battery would appreciate it.

The switch is located in the door i believe you should be able to remove it and clean it out it's probably just sticking on some dirt.

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. Lately I have been having a lot of weird electrical problems. The door ajar signal comes on every time I start the car even though there are no doors ajar. I can hit the reset button and it goes away till the next time I start the car. The interior lights always go on when a door is opened but doesn’t always go off after the door has been closed and the timer has expired. It used to fade out after about 30 seconds but now most of the time it doesn’t shut off at all. I have resulted to turning off the interior lights. When the heat or AC are on auto the air first comes out of the pannel vents. Then they go off and the air comes out on the floor. Then that goes off and the air comes from the defroster vents. It repeats this cycle about ever 20 seconds or so. Also when I set the alarm, I keep getting two beeps and the alarm won’t set. Does this sound like the processor module is going out? Where is the module located? If not that what do you think it might be?

Some of the symptoms will probably be resolved by spraying the door latches with a thin lube like wd-40 and opening and closing the doors. Spray them good.

My left door closed sensor is working only part time. I show that the door is open and the interior light is on and the quto door locks won't work. After about two minutes of driving every thing is then OK. My question is where is the door sensor and how hard it is to replace?

Get some thin lubricant such as wd-40 and soak the latch good. Open and close the door 15-20 times..each side and spray again. Problem will likley be solved.

Hello,I have a 1998 Ford Expedition. The problem is that the interior lights and the door ajar lights in the dash are always on.Obviously the battery keeps draining and dying. I shut all the doors and the lights are still on. Do you know what could be the problem that is causing this?
