Finding your site was such a delightful experience and a much-welcomed surprise. Thanks for all the valuable and useful info. Here's our problem: The truck lurches roughly into gear when I drive off. This usually happens at first start-up and sometimes at stop lights as well. Also, after having driven on the highway for a couple of miles, the truck will suddenly rev up, and lurch & buck. Sometimes it also takes longer than normal to switch to the next gear. In early 2004, the torque converter was replaced (under warranty). And the trans fluid may have been changed on one other occasion. Repair shop for this new transmission problem advises that rebuilt tranny is needed because of "2 bad solenoids". For such a costly repair, we wanted some reassurance. We've recently had the "heads" replaced by this same shop. Now I realize that problems can occur at any time, but we didn't have this trans problem before we took the truck in for the head repair job. Seems like an eerie coincidence to me...I appreciate whatever help you're able to give. And keep up the good work. You're doing a wonderful service for the public.

Ask for the specific trouble codes. If the trans was only serviced once and the converter changed then it was under-serviced. Try a trans service with new filter and see if it works any better. Worth a try before spending that kind of money
