My 2002 ford expedition 4.6 v8 has a hesitation problem. When at 55-60 Mph and rpm between 1500-2000 it hesitates and jerks. I have not noticed it at any other speeds or rpm range. No problems when driving on city streets or when at highway speeds of about 70 mph or more. I am also not getting any engine codes. My mechanic cleaned the mass airflow sensor and it stopped for about a week, but now the problem is back. Any ideas? thank you.

Answer to your PM: The picture shows the part usually responsible, It's called the EVR...sometimes you can take the top part off, and wash the sponge part in soap and water, dry it out and put it back together. In the picture it's upsidedown!
You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs!

Hey, my service engine soon light FINALLY came on. I got the code scanned and it turned out to be a misfire on cylinder # 2. I replaced the coil on plug unit and it fixed the whole problem. Hope this helps someone else.
