I have a 2001 Ford Expedition 2WD with 105,000. I think it needs a new transmission. What is the price range for this work?

Based on where you live will have an affect on the cost. However, I would estimate around 2500.00 based on what parts are needed.

What is the transmission doing? If it has been maintained, it should be fine yet.

I live in Oklahoma and I got a quote for about $2000. Initially, the transmission had a difficult time shifting into anything above 2nd gear during acceleration. This happened a couple times earlier this week but would eventually make the transition. Then on the trip to the shop the next day, it would not even get into a higher gear. I'm also told that reverse is also out, but I never verified that.
I've owned the 2001 Expedition since 2003, never had any other problems, and it has had all scheduled maintenance.

I was a little hight on my quote. Not knowing where the customer is located makes it hard.

As far as the problem, has the check engine light ever come on? I question if it's a vehicle speed sensor or shift solenoid. If it is, the check engine light should have come on. However, neither of them would cause reverse to go out. Did you have reverse when you took it to the shop?

The check engine light did NOT come on. I did have a friend mention that it might be a sensor or solenoid, but would the check engine liight have come on? As I recall, it did have reverse when I took it in. The symptons were difficulty shifting into anything higher than 2nd gear and occassionally downshifts violently.

I would think the check engine light would have been set with a sensor, but based on your description, it sounds like a (VSS), vehicle speed sensor.
