I was going down the road this evening and the weather was horrible. The streets were flooded. As I am driving, my car starts sputtering and acting like it is going to die. I pull into a parking lot and sit there for a moment and the RPMs keep jumping. They finally settle down and I try to go and the engine stalls. I start it up and it keeps idling rough with the RPMs jumping everywhere. Then it dies again. The battery dies, so I have a friend come jump me. When the batteries are together, the truck tries to start, but won't turn over. I roll up the windows and it drains the battery. It never starts fully, so we give up and decide to tow. As soon as I unhook the jumper cables, the battery drains to almost nothing. I just had my fuel pump and filter replaced because my car would turn over, but not start. It ran good for a few days. I also have had my check engine light on saying my EGR valve is bad, but I have replaced it 3 times.

Check the fuel pressure and recheck the DPFE/EGR valve. Do you have a diagnostic trouble code P0171/P0174?
