1999 Ford Expedition Rattle when A/C is off

Engine rattles when the climate control is set to off.
the rattle varies depending on which setting its on i.e.
floor, panel etc. The rattle completely stops when the A/C is turned on.

Check heat shields on the exhaust system. Chances are one is loose.
