1999 Ford Expedition Differential

The differential cover is nothing more than bolted on. Remove the bolts holding it in place and then you may have to tap on it with a rubber mallot to make it come loose. Keep in mind, the gear lube will drain when it comes off. I usually loosten all of the top bolts maybe a turn or two, the sides 3 or 4 turns, then remove the bottom ones. After that, I gently slip a screwdriver between the cover and the differential and gently turn it until the gear lube begins to leak out. At that point, I allow it to drain before removing the rest of the bolts. If it comes off at one time, you'll end up with a mess.
