1998 Ford Expedition Stuck in 4 Low

My Expedition is stuck in 4 low! Mechanic says there is no power to the electric motor on the transfer case. What could this be?

I know it has a ton of miles on it, but it has been well taken care of! This is the first problem other than the rear drive shaft going out! We currently have 10+ inches of snow, but a 20 mile drive to work in 4 low is impossible!

If there is no power to the actuator, chances are the switch itself is bad. Also, make sure the fuses are good for this accessory. Finally, if the fuses are good, start at the switch. Check to see that it is receiving power. If it is, see if it is sending power out. If it isn't, then the switch is the problem. If there is power out, then you will need to follow the wiring to the actuator to see where there is a break or loss of power.

Let me know what you find. ALso, Speak with your mechanic to see if there is a way he can manually apply power to the actuator to have it shift to 4 high.

Mechanic took sensor off of the transfer case, sprayed it with ether and it fixed it! I hate it but the part stores all told me there was no fuse for it, and looked at me like i was crazy!

We have no idea why it just stuck there! But I know it WONT be going into 4 low unless it is absolutely necessary!

I love my Expedition but every 4x4 part i'm told is a FORD part! thats just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
