1997 Ford Expedition $ Wheel Drive will not engage.

I do not understand the symptoms described and hope you can provide a clearer description.

1. 4WD engages without the dash indicators showing?
2. When engaged to Low range, what happens? Stuck in High or no power transmission?
3. Does 4WD indicator light works at any time?

Tests can be carried out with the aid of Diagnostic tools.

It will not go into 4-wheel drive or 4 low, no lights come on either. The vacuem soliniods are not working, with my vacuem pump the axles engage & disengage with no problem,I manually engaged the front axles & ty-wrapped engaged, to rule that out. Should I have power at the dash selector ? I have a Innova 3140 Scan Tool, can this help me ? There is no sounds from the motor on the transfer case when moving the selector on the dash, that is why I started with the fuses & then the switch. Any diagrams of the wiring would help also.

If the scanner can be used to retrieve DTCs and read data streams, it might possibly work but I am not sure about that. I will provide you the wiring schematics and see if you can come up with anything.
