1997 Ford Expedition tranmission torque acts like in 4wd in

Also my 4wd lights on dash all come on when my key is on, if im in 2wd all lights off and front wheels dis-engage, but tronny dos'nt. When I put in A4WD that light comes on, put in 4 high or 4 low , light still says A4WD. and front wheels are ingage in these 3. So why dose the tranny and moter act like still in 4wd when front wheels are dis-engaged. IS this the shift moter. Every thing ive read about it is with people are having problems being stuck in 4wd. But mines dis-engaging front wheels, and light goes off. I also have been starting in nutural because park is stuck for last 2 months, could that have any thing to do with it. Can someone help me please.
