Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1997 Ford Expedition V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 121K miles
It appears that my front CV axles are broken into 2 sections that are subdivided by a round plate with bolts all around it. The cv boot nearest the wheel on my expedition has come off, and that section needs now to be replaced. Is it possible to simply undo all the bolts in this mid section, and remove the portion from that point to the wheel? Or does the entire assembly from the outer hub nut to the front gear box need to be replaced as one unit?
I'm hoping that all I need to do is undo th ebolts in the mid section, undo the hub nut, and the section will come out easily. Will I need to do anything on the wheel end apart from removing the Outter hub nut? I know it's good practice to replace bearings, and will most likely do this, but is removing them a necessity?
Thank You!
