Escort ZX2 starts and idles fine. Under acceleration or deceleration load, sounds like gears clashing or skiping. From standing start, skip causes engine to rock fore and aft. Did not start until after I had ball joints replaced. Has gotten progressively worse. Am also slinging oil out of front engine cover area since work was done and noise has started. I have driven about 950 highway miles since, and from where, repairs were made and can not return.
Could there have been an engine mount left out or loose?
Could it be a bad drive axle shaft spline?
Help

There isn't a need to remove a mount for ball joints. I would recommend starting by having the steering components checked to make sure they replaced everything correctly.
