1999 Ford Escort Wont Crank

so it won't turn over or it won't start? If you won't start(which is what it sounds like) then you need to check fuel, spark, compression. If it won't crank then you need to check starter, battery, connections to both. HTH.

I've checked everything and it seem to be the fuel pump. How hard is it to put another one on? I can't afford a mechanic.

did you check fuel pressure?

No, I found someone to hook it on a computer and it showed the fuel pump.

To take the fuel pump out. Remove the rear seat custion(should be able to just pull up from the bottom of the cushion). There will be a metal panel. Take the panel off under that should be the fuel pump. HTH.

do you see the fuel pump? It should have a ring around it or some bolts all around it. HTH.

I put a new fuel pump in and its still not firing.

That's why I asked if you had fuel pressure. So here is what you are going to do now. Get a spark tester, a fuel pressure gauge, and a noid light. Find out if you have spark with the spark tester, hook up a fuel gauge and see if you have fuel pressure, the hook up the noid light to the fuel injector connector and see if you have injector pulse. Also you want to check to see if you have compression. If you need help or pictures for doing this please reply to the post.

To test for spark. Get a spark tester(can get it at any parts store) and take the spark plug wire off(anyone).Hook the spark plug tester at the end of the plug wire and the other to a good ground. Have someone crank the car while you see if there is spark coming out from the spark tester.

I won't have to check for fuel injector pulse yet. But a good way to check for a loss of fuel is just get a can of Carb spray or starting fluid. Take the intake boot off and spray it done the intake plenum with the throttle open. CLose the throttle and then boot the intake boot back on. Crank the car over and see if it starts. HTH.
