Tires and Wheels problem
1999 Ford Escort Automatic 200000 miles
I'm in Ontario, Canada, and winter weather is soon approaching. I have a set of 3 winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak P185/65R14, about 5 years old) on my car now, with an old, nearly worn-out all-season tire on a rear wheel. I obviously need to get a replacement winter tire to complete the set, and I also need to get a set of all-season tires (unless I can use the winter tires all year round?).
The reason for the currently-mismatched tires is that one of the winter tires was badly punctured and couldn't be repaired.
A problem I've been having with both these winter tires and the all-season tires I was previously using is frequent flat tires. I've had a tire run flat almost every second month or so, but the auto shops never find any major problems with the tires and have been re-sealing the bead or replacing the valve stem.
Is it possible that we need new rims? Since I've had frequent flats with two different sets of tires, I wonder if the rims are a possible cause.
Is there anything else I should consider?
I don't plan on keeping the car longer than 4-5 years.
