#1 on diagram is the cable you need ..#2 is where the connector you are missing plugs into ...temerature control is done via the cable you are missing .. although I do not see how or why the thieves took this cable while stealing the radio !! they probably disconnected it from the control knobs but it goes right back to the heater box and would have to be disconnected at that end also !! SYSTEM CONTROLS Rotary Blower Switch Rotary blower switch, located on integrated control panel, operates the blower motor in 4 speeds. See Fig. 1 . Function Selector Function selector rotary switch, located on integrated control panel, controls air distribution. See Fig. 1 . The function selector operates vacuum motors which position airflow control doors inside the heater assembly. The position of these doors determines to which outlets air will be delivered. Six positions are available: OFF, panel, panel/floor, floor, floor/defrost, and defrost. Temperature Control Switch Temperature control switch is connected by cable to temperature blend door. See Fig. 1 . With knob in cool position, air by-passes heater core. With knob in warm position, air is directed through heater core. In intermediate positions, air is directed through and around heater core, and then blended to achieve desired temperature.

OK, so yesterday I went out to a scrap yard and I got lucky, I found the cables that connect the blower the defroster etc and re-connected all those pieces which went very smoothly.

The only item I have left to fix is the cable line which goes to the knob controlling the hot and cold temperature. I have the cable but it doesnt secure firmly it seems to the back of the hot/cold knob on the temp controls, am I missing something that goes between this cable and the back of the control knob or is it meant to only attach loosely like that.

The problem I am having is that the cable does not have any play in terms of length between where it connects to the main core under the dash on the drivers side and the back of the temp controls and because the connection is so loose if i pull it down to re-connect to the core it pulls it off the back of the knob.

Also your right, the cable was still in the car it had been just pulled off by the look of it but like i said above I am wondering if thats all there is because there is not any kind of a solid connection between the cable and the hot/cold temp knob.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Rotate temperature control switch to cold position. Unlock temperature cable by pulling down on tab. See Fig. 11 . Disconnect temperature cable while holding tab down.

mainly I am concerned about the other end that connects to the back of the dial on the dash, does the piece with the white plastic just hook straight onto the back of the knob from there or should there be something else in between that cable which you showed the diagram of and the dash control?

I think it should be screwed onto the control knob housing !! is this what you mean ??

somewhat yeah but all i have is the black plastic housing that looks like it should slide onto the silver knob the problem is there is nothing to hold it on there so I dont know if its just i cannot get it on there properly or if I am missing a part to connect the 2 together
