1999 Ford Escort car noise while driving and after shut off

Noises problem
1999 Ford Escort Automatic 108771 miles

my car will start making a squealing or squeeking noise after it has been going for awhile. It does not do it the whole trip but on and off. Then when the car is shut off it lets out one loud squeal. Any suggestions on what this is? --
