So, the steering wheel no longer turns the front passenger wheel... you can see the thing (tie rod, I think), rusted and completely severed.

How much can I expect this repair to run? I had it towed to the shop, and they'll be giving an estimate in the morning, but for all I know it could be a $200 repair or a $1200 repair - I'm clueless, and would like some insight.

Also, do smart people replace tie rods only when they are visibiliy damaged - like the one hanging from my vehicle - or do you replace them in pairs, figuring if one breaks, the other couldn't be too far behind? I would rather NOT have to experience this again!

I'm assuming the estimate would include an alignment charge. Is that standard or is it an 'add on' after you've agreed to the repair?

Thanks for any and all advice.

usually these components are inspected very so often and replaced when there is sever wear and tear found on them. you will definitely want to replace both sides at this time..estimate should be around $350 to $450 including parts and labor, adjustments included.
