I have a 1993 1.9l with automatic transmission. Car has approx. 134,000 miles. My transmission has quit working. When I first crank it it will work for a short period of time. Seems to pull fine and shift fine and then quits. After a few minutes it will work again. It does seem to be worse that when it first started. I have had other automatic transmissions that went out on me and they usually seem to slip a lot before they actually quite. My Escort doesn't really seem to slip it just quits.
Was wondering if I should just assume the transmission is bad and go that route (ie, replace transmission) or are there some electronic components that might be causing this to happen?
