When I am driving and either slow down or speed up, sometimes my vehicle will not shift into gear and then it jerks and shifts. I have checked the transmission fluid and it is good.

This sounds like a turbine shaft speed sensor has gone out but to be sure lets run the codes

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Here is the location of the input shaft speed sensor. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

I found a very nice looking 2005 Ford Escape 3.0L 6 cylinder car on the auction and was able to get the car for $1400 ($1900 including fees). The car was guaranteed to Run & Drive or return the car. We went to get the car and turns out the engine was able to start properly; however, the car turns on Park but when I move the stick shift to any other mode, the car stays on Park and doesn't move forwards or backwards. Two of the people who work there came to see what's wrong with the car, one looking under the hood and one moving the stick shift, and I heard them saying that something moves when the they shift the transmission. The car also has rust above the back wheels. We ended up returning the car for a full refund. The car came back on the auction and we are thinking about spending no more that $600 (or more if it's worth it) to re-buy the car. We also found a good deal to get a whole new transmission system for $500 and we will probably the same for labor. What do you think would be the problem with the transmission? Would we need to replace the whole system? How much do you think would be the cost to fix the rust on the car? I am mainly buying this car so I can sell it for a higher price, I heard that it's very hard to sell this type of car and that it usually has a lot of mechanical problems from a mechanic that my friend knows, Do you agree? Please provide as much detail possible on the transmission problem. Vin# 1FMCU03155KD75895

It is impossible to quote any transmission work with out actually seeing the transmission dismantled first, there are so many things that can go wrong with out doing some tests we would be working blind folded, unfortunately this also goes for the body work, sight unseen you just don't know how involved it may be. If you can get a good second hand transmission I would go down this path, I doubt that the panel work will cost a lot, but you really need to get a panel shop to quote this as well.

I've noticed that my 2003 ford escape downshifts itself and will not pick up/hold speed like it should. Also, I've noticed that I am able to start my vehicle but not move it at times. Could it be the transmission going bad or could it be something else?

it sounds like it is internal particularly with it not moving in gear. you need to have a trans shop check it for you and give you a bid.

Hello,

The problem Ford Escape 3.0
Battery dead then slipping on the shifting form 2-3 gear.
No DTC codes appears.
Rebuilt with:
- Master repair kit (seals frictions, gaskets, pistons etc.)
- New solenoid body
- New valve body
- New filter and almost all details in pump
- New planetary.

The result: when cold transmission (approx 10 min after start) everything OK
When hot tranny 2-3 slipping, other 1-2,3-4 soft shift

What is wrong and where to find problem?

Hello,

It sounds like the turbine shaft speed sensor is not working correctly which may or may not create a trouble code. Here is the location so you can check it out. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is

It rolls backwards when I am on a small or large hill when the car is in drive. I was wondering if the tranny is slipping or if their is something else wrong with the gearbox. It has never done this before.

The trans fluid is good and the check engine light is not on.

That's normal in any car on a steep incline. You should not feel it jolt into gear when you raise engine speed slightly. If the car doesn't roll backward with a slight increase in engine speed, you likely have nothing to worry about. Just in case though, check the fluid level.

My car has been running great until yesterday. I was driving and all of the sudden the engine would rev but the car would not move. I shut it off and tried again in a few minutes. it went about 100 feet then same thing. Today i changed the fluid and it was full but black and burnt. I drove ti around for like 10 minutes and ti was fine then it started whining then would not move again. After beign shut off for a few it would move a little bit then same thing. how bad is this? I am optimistic that its not all bad since after time it would work.

Hi there,

The black & burnt oil i a very bad sigh sorry. This is an indication of extremely high temp in the transmission due to band slippage, your trans will more than likely require a full overhaul.

I have a 2005 Ford Escape XLT 6 cylinder AWD with 44k miles.

When I accelerate from about 20mph to 60+ mph once I hit the higher gears, the car seems like it is slipping into gear, it shakes and sputters alittle and I am concered my transmission is going? There is NO check engine light or any other light that has come on when this happens.

Please help ... what could this possible be? One day it was fine and i didnt feel anything, the next day I felt it, then it was fine and now back to doing the same thing. It has been raining but the time I didnt feel anything it was raining, and I have felt the car do this when there was no rain. The jerks/slips/shakes have been subtle but I have felt it in the lower gears too only going about 20mph and I have felt it going 55-60mph also.

Please help.

Yes, I checked and that is all good. I took it to ford, they couldnt figure it out because when they test drove it, nothing happened for them, which is what I figured would happened seeings how it only happend to me a couple of time over 3 weeks.

Could it be something with the fuel lines or the gas?

It could be a fuel pump issue. If the pump is weak, it may not be supplying enough fuel. You can check it yourself. Here is a how to video and directions. The only thing you will need is a fuel pressure gauge. Most parts stores will lend or rent them to you.

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_check_fuel_pressure.htm

Let me know what you find.

you will need some wrenches or sockets and extensions. a drip pan and if you want less mess a oil pump to suck out the old grease.

and then you need the new grease and some rtv sealent.

My transmission seems to be slipping. It started out at lower speeds, particularly when taking off, but then over a period of a couple of days, while driving on the freeway it seems to slip in and out of gear. Do I need a whole new transmission?

I am sort of a jeep cj expert.

I'm the guy (everyone flocks to) who has purchased lots of tools and manuals.......instead of buying alcoholic beverages!

My wife has a 2001 escape.

Maybe a few reminders that may help you!

1) have you checked your fluid level while in park and idle?

2) are you using correct fluids, several listed, dependent on your type trans-axle system you have.

3) are you performing maintenance at recommended times or milage (30,000 miles or 24 months for trans-axle and differentials)

All of this information was obtained from my "haynes" 2001-2007 ford escape manual

If you do not have a manual, you really need one.

Manual shows you everything you need to maintain and do a lot of, not only minor repairs, but a lot of major ones too!

Cost is about $30.00 at major auto stores.

Read thru the entire manual to learn how much it can help you, or the guy who might know more than you (that stops to help when you are stranded on the highway), and you hand him the manual (kept in your rig) he will be able to assist more!

Hope i am not preaching!

Maybe this will help you in some way!

Respond?

My vehicle description states I have a 4-speed automatic O/D transmission. My scheduled maintenance guide recommends that I change automatic transmission fluid at 60,000 miles if my car is equipped with the torqshift transmission. No where in my 2006 Escape owner's guide can I find a transmission that is refered to as a torqshift transmission. Is my 4-speed automatic O/D transmission a torqshift transmission?

If they do not refer to anything other, I would say yes. However, I would also recommend keeping an eye on the fluid to make sure it doesn't get dirty or smell burnt. If it does, then I would service it regardless of mileage.

Transmission problem
2006 Ford Escape V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 16,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I was driving my vehicle when it ran out of transmission fluid and I had it tow to a dealership. They told me that the hose between the radiator and the transmission cooler had slowing drained all of the fluid out. However, when I was driving my vehicle and finally stopped it a bunch of fluid drained onto the ground. My question is how do I know whether I can just get the hose fixed and add more fluid or do I need to get a whole new transmission?

That shouldn't cost you anything, that should be covered under the factory warranty.

The line obviously has to be fixed. There is a very good chance that the low fluid has casued damage to the transmission internally. At our shop we would fix the leak and then see how it acts after the repair.
