2002 Ford Escape 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

the rear hatch will not unlock, when the button is pushed i do not hear the rear hatch solenoid activate. how do i diagnose the problem and or replace the solenoid?

first check fuses, if OK then most likely the actuator needs replaced. Do you hear the click of the actuator or is it silent? If you do hear it then the latch is stuck and might need lube and or re-alignment, if not then the actuator is likely bad.
