when cold engine has trouble idling, must put in neutral and give gas to keep it idling. once engine is warm engine runs normally

Sounds to me like a faulty coolant temperature sensor to me. usually the #1 cause of the problem you described. and usually goes away when worm.

I changed to air idle control unit. That did help, but it was still idling low at times.
Then I had the throttle decarb and PVC replaced, still a problem.
I'm taking back to service station.
