Which sensor are you looking for and why? Do you have a code or something? The sensor is rarely at fault.

Most of the time the oxygen sensor codes are consequential of other issues.. vacuum leaks are a big one

The upstream sensors are located in the exhaust before the catalytic converters... the downstream are after the cats

Just because they are inexpensive, don't just throw parts at the vehicle, it may not fix it

It was tested by auto zone and checker auto parts. Did not write down which one needed to be replaced, replaced wrong one. Trying to figure out where both are located in the vehicle so I know where the other one is.

You're likely replacing the wrong part anyway. Most 0/2 codes are not caused by the sensors. We would need the exact code number to even identify which sensor it is. It could have 4 of them.

Received code 1130 from mechanic. Came up catalytic exhaust performing below threshold. Saying bank 2 sensor bad. Where is this and does this mean a catalytic converter is bad or just the sensor?

Fault codes never say a part is bad or needs to be replaced. They only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. While it's true you will find the sensor in question to be defective about 50 percent of the time, there are a lot of other possible causes for codes to set.

Bank two is on the passenger side. Most systems have an upstream, (closest to the engine), and a downstream, (behind the catalytic converter) oxygen sensor on each bank. The downstream one is just for monitoring the efficiency of the converter.

The code description I have is more informative.

P1130 – Lack Of HO2S-11, Fuel Trim At Limit.

It suggests the Engine Computer is trying to correct the fuel / air mixture and doesn't have enough adjustment capability to reach the correct ratio. That suggests the oxygen sensor is not defective; it's just reporting what it sees.

I have a trouble code P0136 on my daughters 2003 Ford Escape 3.0L. O'Reilly's said "Downstream Heated Oxygen Sensor HO2S 12 Circuit Malfunction Bank 1. Where is Bank 1, by firewall or radiator? Also want to check wire from HO2S to PCM connector to make sure it is OK. Which pin on PCM is it and what is color code of wire? Could you give me the Pinout chart for this model? That would be most helpful. Thanks

possible problems are damaged wire or harness, exaust system leak prior to O2, crossed wires, and most likely problem contaminated or faulty O2 sensor. if you have a single exaust it is the senosr behind the converter if you have dual exaust it's the sensor behind right converter. you really sholdn't try messing aroudn with pcm connections nor O2 connections. you will need a scanner to erase the code when you are finished.

new used car, check engine light comes on, after purchase. take back to dealer, they say it is oxygen sensor light. after a day at shop, sensor replaced, two days later, check engine light comes on again. take back to dealer, they say there are four oxygen sensors, and after putting vehicle on machine, light goes out, but they say they have to order another sensor? Asked what is the oxygen sensor, and should I have concern about traveling. They advise it has to do with the emissions?

When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to.

Have the DPFE sensor replaced most of the time this will correct the issues and save you money.

would needing to replace the senors cause the car to idle rough when the engine is cold I have replaced the plugs wires and fuel filter asready the codes left are for 2 of the oxygen sensors

Are they oxygen sensor codes or are they lean codes. If you have P0171, or P0174 codes, they are not oxygen sensor codes. They are caused by a vacuum leak. If the leak is bad enough you should be able to hear a hissing noise while the engine is running. Otherwise the intake manifold gaskets are probably leaking. this is my sisters car and it was running really rough, i took a look at the codes and it came up with cylinder 6 misfire and all 4 oxygen sensor codes. I replaced all of the spark plugs and a few of the coils with known good coils scavenged out another escape, and replaced intake manifold gasket. The misfife code was gone, still runs rough, and still have o2 sensor codes at this point (obviously haha.) I then replaced all o2 sensors (sister said those codes have been on for a few years), with roughly 150k on the car and they've never been touched it seemed like the next logical step. I cleared the codes and started the car, it ran good for a minute and the codes came back now runs rough again. The fuse is good and the harness is intact. Also replaced a vaccum hose that was collapsed. but i am stumped now. any ideas on what pins to test on the harness from the ecu to the sensors? i dont want my pops to take this project from me to bring to a "real" (expensive) mechanic.

I found the vaccum leak and fixed, the rough idle is gone but I still am having the issue of all 4 oxygen sensor codes coming up with all new sensors. I was wondering if you knew which pins to test from the computer harness to the sensor plugs. Trying to decide whether its a computer problem, converter problem, or a wiring problem.

what are the codes if it's 420 or 430 it may be a converter also check for air leaks in exaust by O2 sensors. But we need the codes to help fix it or properly diagnose it. It cold be something other than the O2 sensors as well.

i have a 2005 ford escape 2.3 4cyl. i have a code 2195 i replaced the oxygen sensor before the converter erased the code , but it came back. car runs good but occ. will idle rough. d.m.

Check for vacuum leaks, could be a bad injector , cylinder misfire, EGR problem, MAF sensor,evap leak.Any exhaust leaks? I know its fairly new, but have you checked the spark plugs? they might point you in the right direction

hi, with your help i have found the problem with my 2005 ford escape, lean problem. it was recently in an accident and i found a hole about the size of a toothpix in the plastic intake manifold i is it possible to plug this small hole? its a 2.3 4 cyl.

2005 Ford Escape 6 cyl 116000 miles

I recently had my check engine light come on and off. I went to a mechanic and had the codes p0153 and p2198 pulled. Each code specifies that there is something wrong with the o2 sensor at bank 2 sensor 1. After much discussion, this lead me to believe that I need to have that sensor replaced.
How much should I be paying for the replacement part? Does anyone know how much a Ford specific part cost or if it is necessary to use one? I called around to places and they are charging around 140-150 for the sensor itself ( are they using a higher quality part?). I feel this is excessive, since they are on sale at Advanced Auto for 60. Should I be paying this much for a part at a auto repair shop?
Would it be better for me to buy an universal part myself and find a shop who will put it in for me?

According to Mitchel online, the most expensive OEM sensor is 89.20. You should be able to get one at a parts store for less than that.
