2001 Ford Escape Ignition switch lock

You have put the steering wheel into "locked" mode. Put the key back into the ignition. Turn the steering wheel clock-wise (it will feel tight, that's OK). While turning the wheel, turn the key on. You will get it unlocked. You may need to try it a few times, before you have the "I get it" feel.

Had no luck with the turning the wheel process. In
case someone else should ask, maybe this will work
for them. I just lightly tapped the key head 5 or 6
times with a screwdriver handle. The key then
turned easily.
