battery light

the battery light symbol in my dash gauges comes on when i start my van up. it stays on for about 3 to 4 minutes then goes out. please tell me what this could be. i have a 97 ford econoline van. i replaced my battery about 2 years ago. i just recently had a major tune up about 3 weeks ago.

place a volt meter with com port connected to the -ve terminal and V port to +ve terminal of the battery ..chk it with the lite on and lite off..anything less than 13.5 is an indication of alternator failing @ under charge ....
