2003 Ford E-Series Van how to determine timing chain slippa

My van is running a little rough, and sounds like I got a piston or 2 kissing my valves. How do I determine if I have a Timing Chain Slippage or a valve train failure ?

Sorry about that, It is a V6 4.2 and does not have DOHC''s.

Started it again, just sounds like a diesel, but still runs.

How do I detemine Timing time slippage or major valve train failure ?

Ok what you would have to do is bring it up to number 1 compression stroke and then check to see if the timing mark on the harmonic is at 0.
