I am trying to reach the EGR Valve to replace it. What is the easiest way to get access to the mounting bolts?

The check engine light is on and the code read EGR problem.

I have been experiencing all the problems associated with a bad valve and cannont pass emissions w/o its replacement.

My van is actually a 1996, '98 is a typo.

99 percent of the time the problem is not the valve but in fact the sensor that detects valve operation. this sensor (dpfe) takes about 5 minutes to replace. its held in by 2 8mm bolts and has two fat rubber hoses going to it. it usually gives a code 401 or 402. low flow or too much flow. try this first then get back to me if it does not fix the problem.
