1991 Ford E-Series Van V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

i was having to jump my van so i thought it was the battery. well i am still haveing to jump it. some one said it was the alternater. so we did the test where u disconnect the positive cable and if it still runs its not the alternater. i am at a loss.
