High idle, I'll try to adjust the idle rode and check the timing. If this fails dew to flooding or poor performance, what can I try next. The motor is a 351/W with 4/bbl
would a vacuum adjustment do the job. I have a 1985 Ford E-150 Ford Van.

Get your engine turned to TDC on compression stroke for #1 cyl.
Turn the crank till the pointer is on the timing value specified on the tune up label.
So, the pointer must read ie. 10 deg BTDC on the compression stroke.
This is static timing. Install the dist with rotor pointing to #1 plug terminal. It should install with minor twists. If your timing and compression are good, rebuild the carburetor.
Make absolutely sure the float level is as specified.
Otherwise, fuel seeps out the top cover gasket area.
Fast idle is usually adjusted with a single screw.
No rods should be bent if the carb is undamaged, and stock. Does this help?
