2006 Ford Crown Victoria instrument cluster locked features

There is often an ambiguous theme in some Wikipedia posts and their "method of disclaiming" can lead to misconceptions. The wording simply should have read, "compatibility". As to the "locked out " functions, these are nothing more than calibration and/or diagnostic/live data sub-routines.

I have already started to look at this myself on Friday. As I thought, Ford used that same instrument cluster as in the civilllian model. I believe all that is needed to access all of the functions of the civillian model (distance to empty, avg fuel ecomony etc, miles to km) is to add the switch panel the civillian model has for accessing the different functions. I am trying to splice in using a switch I had from a 1996 car and it looks like it works, however, I will be ordering the proper one from Ford as it does not fit in the dash, and has wrong connector so I had to solder the wires. As for Wikipedia it looks llke they were bang on. Also to note - the locked out functions Wikipedia refered to were the fuel economy, distance to empty, and imperial to metric, and yes they were not accessable (locked out) without the added on switch panel. And it is a fairly simple wiring modification evident as soon as you review the wiring diagrams for the 2006 model (both civliian and P71 in same book). Once I get the new switch I'll hard wire it and retest, but looks like I have got it. I can't really figure out what your answer is? First cross compatibiliity and compatability are the same things, and it would not make sense to lock out diagnostic and live data sub routines in the police model unless it was a cost saving issue - leaving a 90.00 switch panel off the dash makes sense, taking the time to lock a sub routine does not.
