1999 Ford Crown Victoria Speedometer

1999 Ford Crown Victoria V8

I have a 99 For Crown Victoria and I have have an issue with the speedometer. I have notice that it works occasionally in cooler weather but during day time driving the speedometer doesnt work and the O/D off light flashes.

O/D off light flashing indicates a fault with the transmission. since the speedometer is always acting up this would point to your vehicle speed sensor (VSS) which is mounted on the transmission.

I'm having the same issue. I got a P0500 code. But the question is, is there two speed sensors or only one?

Hi Christopher,

If you follow the test for this DTC it tells you to hold one of the drive wheels and spin the other. Then monitor the VSS and this will tell you what the issue is. You have multiple speed sensors but only one vehicle speed sensor. Please see attached. Thanks
