Tires and Wheels problem
1994 Ford Crown Victoria V8 Automatic
I have a '94 Crown Vic Police Interceptor. About a month ago, I started noticing a fast leak coming from the rear end, from a large bulb-like object (pumpkin head?) on the rear axle in between the wheels. I was driving it the other day and it came screeching to a halt all on its own, as if I threw it into park while driving, and now it won't move forward or in reverse, it just stutters and drags. I even tried towing it home in neutral, and it just drags across the ground and couldn't tow it any further than 20 yards. I'm a broke student and this is my only mode of transportation and I have no idea what it even could be, let alone how to fix it and can't really afford to take it into a shop. I thought maybe the fluid leaking was transmission fluid, but I checked that and its a little low, but not dry enough to cause an issue like this. Someone mentioned it could be rear differential fluids. Is this fixable? If not, I just need to junk it and get it off the side of the road, so any answer to my question is most sincerely appreciated.
