Blower Motor Issues

Yes, my niece has a 2000 Ford Contour. The Blower Motor does not work. I removed the Blower Motor and checked it by connecting a 12-volt power source. The Blower Motor itself works fine. Therefore, it must either be three other possible problems. 1.) the Blower Motor Resistor. 2.) The Dash Blower Motor fan switch, or 3.) the Blower Motor fan relay.
So, where do I find the Blower Motor Resistor or the Blower Motor Relay? I have a Haynes Manual for this vehicle, but it does not show you where to look for these items.
Is there not a more comprehensive manual out there which provides locations for parts such as referenced above?

Alright on the connector that goes to the blower motor put the fan switch on high with the key in the run position.Check the green and orange wire it should have battery voltage.Now check the black and red wire that should have 2 ohm's or less to ground.Let me know what you find.

I have a 1999 Ford Contour SE with 70K miles. The fan for the heating/AC will not turn on in ANY position. For a short time, it would only work on high and not in the slower speeds - now nothing. I replaced the blower resistor with no change and checked the fuse and it is fine. Could it be the blower motor itself or maybe a blower relay? I don't know. What is my next step to diagnosing this thing?

I would check the blower motor first, I believe it can be accessed rather easily, unhook the electrical connector for the motor and check it with 12 volts, see if it works. if yes then move on to the relay or the fan switch itself

Where do I start looking if my car heater/blower
only runs on high?

I did note that it could be a heater blower resistor on
the net. Problem is I cannot seem to find a part for this or cannot find out (if this is the issue) where this would be located on my car?

I had this same issue with my 96. Check the temp control head. The switch that controls the fan has a tendancy to short out causing the wiring to the switch to melt together.

I have a 1999 ford contour with 98000 miles. The heater blower stopped working. I can hear when the air conditioning come on, and can feel when I turn the heater on but the blower doesn't work. How do I figure out what it is?

You can start by checking the fuses

You need a test light connected to a good ground

1st check all fuses

2nd if all ok remove the cover under the clove box and expose the blower motor and wiring

With the test light you should have power on one of the wire at all time if not the problem is between the fuses and the motor .

3rd if all ok tap the motor (with key on) see if you get any movment out of it

If you do replace the motor most likely filled with water

4th if its not

Pull the wire from the blower motor and use the test light to complete the circuit between the two end of the wire if it lights up you need a blower motor

I have replaced the fuse and the relay switch but the fan still will not come one. What can I do to fix the problem?

Need to test motor..supply 12 volt power to motor to ensure it does work. If it does, inspect wiring to motor. If it doesn't, replace blower motor.

Hello, did you check for voltage at the relay terminals, key on, heater controls on? Two terminals should be hot, use a testlite.

The speeds for the blower are controlled on the ground side. You can unplug the fan, use jumpers for B+ and ground, use an inline fuse on the jumper, see if the fan will run, if it won't, maybe something wrong with the fan?

1999 Ford Contour 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1999 ford contour that the heater only works on high. I have changed the blower resister and checked all the fuses. I think it is the switch??
any thoughts?

Yes you need to check the switch !

BLOWER MOTOR CIRCUIT
Mode (Function Selector) Switch
When the heater mode switch is in any position except OFF, power is supplied to the coil circuit of the blower motor relay. When the heater mode switch is in the OFF position, the blower motor will not operate.
Blower Motor Relay
Blower motor relay is located under left side of dash, in fuse/relay block. When current flows from the heater mode switch to the blower motor relay, it passes through the coil circuit to ground. This causes the contacts in the relay to close, allowing power to the blower motor.
Blower Motor Switch
The blower motor switch completes the blower motor ground circuit by directing current through one or more of the blower motor resistors (except high speed), or directly to ground through the blower motor switch (high speed).
Blower Motor Resistor
Blower motor resistor is located behind glove box, near blower motor. The blower motor is grounded through all 3 resistors (low speed), 2 resistors (medium-low speed), or one resistor (medium-high speed).
Thermal Limiter
The thermal limiter is part of the blower motor resistor. If airflow through the system is reduced or stopped (due to a locked blower motor wheel, etc.), the blower motor resistor may overheat, damaging the heater housing. If the temperature of the blower motor resistor increases to about 250°F (121°C), the thermal limiter opens the blower motor circuit. The thermal limiter cannot be serviced separate from the blower motor resistor.

HEATER CONTROL PANEL
Removal & Installation
Disconnect negative battery cable. Install Radio Removers (T87P-19061-A) into radio face plate. Push radio removers about 1" (25.4 mm) into face plate to release retainer clips. Slightly spread removers, then remove radio. Remove radio chassis.
Remove 4 screws attaching finish panel. Disconnect headlight dimmer switch connector. Remove finish panel by pulling it away from dash. Remove 2 screws and A/C-heater control panel. Disconnect electrical and vacuum harness connectors. To install, reverse removal procedure.

My AC motor is frozen. I want to replace the serpentine belt replacing by bypassing the AC at this time. What is the easiest, and most economical way to do this?

check with an auto parts as you are going to have to hunt for one that will fit that way if you ac is frozen the clutch should still turn however and if you unplug the ac it won't turn the clutch on.

The fan for the heater has stopped working. It was working only in the High position, now it has stopped all together. What might be the problem?

-Check fuses 23 and 73 if okay-test the blower relay, resistor and the blower switch to include the ground circuit

It seems that the heater blower motor has gone bad on my 1999 Ford Contour. I am not sure, as I cannot find my car manual. I checked the relay and fuse, both seem to be in perfect condition. Could it be the resistor that is bad? Where do I find the heater blower motor on my car?

Right side behind clove box
place switch at high check at the motor plug for battery power and ground
if both ok replace the motor

The air conditioner and heater would work but only on high blower setting. Now I cannot get any blowing at all. The high low knob on the very left of the panel seems like its under distress compared to the turning of the other two knobs. Do I need to buy a whole new panel?

Without looking at a service manual or knowing which heater control system you have, your description suggests the fan motor has tight bearings and that has led to the additional problems. A tight motor draws much higher than normal current, and that overheats and blows the thermal fuse in the fan speed resistor assembly. Most circuits will still work on the highest speed when the resistor assembly is bad, but if that high current has to pass through the speed switch, that will also be overheated. That can melt the plastic parts and make the switch hard to turn.

I don't have a manual for this car which fuse and or relay is for the heater blower. And is it located in the battery side fuse box or under the dash.

Check the blower motor fuse 30amp and the blower motor relay in the interior fuse panel. Fuse and relay okay -Try powering the blower motor direct from the battery and see what happens

When using blower on hot or cold the air makes a very loud blowing noise, but not through anywhere I set it to, ex- defrost, panel, floor, ect. The only setting that I get any real airflow is when it is set to max AC, then it comes through the panel vents. I have checked the heater core, and replaced the resistor. What else could it possibly be?

This sounds like a vent door problem. Check the HVAC assembly for disconnected vacuum hoses or wiring. Check the fresh air door to make sure it is opening and closing.

where is the heater blower motor resistor located? i need to replace it. I have been replacing fuses regularly. Also the fan swtich only works on the high selection. Again, where is the fan motor resistor, or as ford calls it the regulator located?

It's on the blower case, rermove the under dash panel to expose the case, remove the plug, screws, and then pry out the old, snap in the new and you are done! Heres the colors of the connector...
