Hi, I have a 1999 Ford contour with 145000 miles. Lately, when I start the engine I hear a clicking noise that goes faster as I accelerate. The performance of the car is fine, but the sound worries me. I have also noticed that after driving about 40 miles mostly on the freeway as I get to my destination and I am slowing down, the engine seems to have more RPM than it should; it is roaring a bit. Any advice on those 2 issues? Thanks

I had a damaged tensioner and frayed timing belt that made a consistent rhythmic click that varied with engine speed. The clicking sound was focused right at the timing belt covers. If you can't pinpont the location purchase or fabricate a simple stethscope to help you zero in on the location of ths click.
