1999 Ford Contour battery light

I love my little conour BUT I have padi for diagnostic checks twice because the battery light comes on and off consistently but they find nothing wrong with the voltage in my batteries or electrical drains. i t still makes me nervous any time I drive thinking that it will not start again etc. They didn't recommend a new battery, just said to keep driving--twice at about 90.00 bucks a pop! is my car still safe and dependable with the battery light staying on? Thank you
