1998 Ford Contour Timing

I have a 1998 ford contour. I just had to replace the timing belt everything. I am wondering how to set the timing for this car. I have heard the timing sets automatically by sensors in the car but other people have told me that it doesn't. I was wondering if you had any advice on this topic
