:?: My Mother owns a 1998 ford contour gl, 4 cyl. When she turns her steering wheel all the way either way it makes a high pitched squeaking or wailing noise. We have checked the power steering fluid and it was full, Yesterday we had taken my moms car up to a mineke to have it looked at for another problem (overheating) they told us that the problem for over heating was the theromostat. But the squeaking started before her car started over heating. If anyone would be of any help as to why my moms car is making a squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel it would be much appreciated:) :D Thank You!

What you describe is normal, and when you reach the all the way position, DO NOT hold it there! You will destroy the power steering pump!

Yes well it only happens when my mom is trying to turn her car or to back out or into a space. So I'm guessing after a while turning the steering wheel all the way will start to make a squeaking sound?
