I have a 98 Ford Contour and it started to humm from under the hood the other day. I listened for when it happens and found out that it manly happens when I am driving and I take my foot off the gas pedal. When I press back on the gas pedal the noise goes away. It also happens sometimes when I start my car, again if I step on the gas the sound goes away. What is making that sound!!?? It is driving me nuts.

I have not checked for vacuum leaks. I did not even know where to start at. Thanks for the starting point. How do you test for vacuum leaks?

There are hoses from the engine that are vacuum lines. Check to make sure there are none disconnected or damaged. Listen for the noise and focus in that area.

Let me know what you find.

I checked the hose that ran from the intake that is attached to the frame of the car, to the air filter, pass a sensor, to the engine, and the hoses that branch out from the main line and found nothing unusual. All attached with no holes.

That sounds like the fuel line. Was it steel?
