1997 Ford Contour od light flashing and shifting hard and s

i had replaced the transmission in my 97 ford contour and the speed ometer is not working and it is shifting rough and late i also have the od light flashing on the car when i get on it it will shift it goes in to all gears and drives off i was just wondering if it might be a sensor causeing it does anyone have a answer
