1997 Ford Contour loosing power

Transmission problem
1997 Ford Contour 98,000 miles

I have a problem that comes and goes. when I'm driving at a higher speed 50+ sometimes I start to loose power and the tach needle surges. one time an engin light came on and the code was for transmission/electrical componet, but when we took it to transmission place it did not act up and they could not pin-point the problem. me mechanic fixed a vacume leak yesterday, but still have same problem.

any ideas??

I'm not sure if this is the answer to your concern, but it is an idea. At one point in time Contours were having issues with ISS (Input Speed Sensors). It is located outside of the transmission, so repair costs should be minimal if you wanted to try to have that replaced. It may not be advisable for you to replace it yourself because I had many of them that broke off in the case upon removal.
