Electrical problem
1996 Ford Contour 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive

96 ford contour died. put new alternator and new battery. still will only run on battery charge. we tried 5 different alternators all new and been tested and test good. but it won't stay charged. what else could it be. help

Check the battery cables at both ends, clean and tight! Then follow the positve cable to the solinoid, the smaller wires are the fusible links, test with a test light or volt meter, then check the cable from the alt to the power distribution box. In the box you will find a small black diode, it looks like a black fuse, check that for continuity in one direction only! thats the power diode.
