I'm back!!! I have a problem when shifting 1/2 or 3/4 up or down, i get a grinding gear noise, but it does go in gear, and the gears are quiet! As suggested previously, I bleed the new clutch hydraulic system, and drained the tranny and put in fresh fluid ! ANY further sugestions most appreciated!! It drives me Nuts, and can't be great for the tranny! Also sometimes it works just fine but less often ,then it grinds

Hello

If I understand your problem correctly, there is a Technical Service Bulletin out on this though it specifically states 3rd it also talks about 2nd. I have attached it for your review.

Article No.

^ NOISE - "GRINDING" OR "CLASHING" HEARD WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR - VEHICLES WITH MTX-75 TRANSAXLE - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 9/1/96

^ TRANSAXLE - MTX-75 - "GRINDING" OR "CLASHING" NOISE HEARD WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 9/1/96

^ TRANSAXLE - MTX-75 - HIGH EFFORT WHEN SHIFTING INTO 2ND GEAR - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 9/1/96

FORD:
1995-96 CONTOUR

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995-96 MYSTIQUE

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to revise the service procedure and the parts required.

ISSUE:
A "grinding" or "clashing" noise may be heard from the transaxle when shifting into 3rd gear and/or a high shift effort may be required to engage cold transaxle on some vehicles. These may be due to a deflected lubrication condition causing early 3rd gear wear or high input shaft preload causing high shift effort.

ACTION:
Rebuild input shaft, changing the axial lash and installing a revised shift fork. These actions will prevent early 3rd gear wear and reduce preload to zero. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
